ONDERWERP: DIE “BELA”-WETSONTWERP: ʼn VERDERE DOELBEWUSTE AANSLAG TEEN AFRIKAANSE ONDERRIG.

MEDIAVERKLARING            ROODEPOORT, SUID-AFRIKA               GEEN EMBARGO

MAANDAG 23 OKTOBER 2023.                                                   (English version below)

UITGEREIK DEUR ADV. JURG PRINSLOO SC, LEIER, AFRIKANER SELFBESKIKKING PARTY

ONDERWERP: DIE “BELA”-WETSONTWERP: ʼn VERDERE DOELBEWUSTE AANSLAG TEEN AFRIKAANSE ONDERRIG.

MEDIA STATEMENT     ROODEPOORT, SOUTH AFRICA    NO EMBARGO

MONDAY 23 OCTOBER 2023                                 (Afrikaanse weergawe bo)

ISSUED BY ADV. JURG PRINSLOO SC, LEADER, AFRIKANER SELF-DETERMINATION PARTY

SUBJECT: THE “BELA” BILL: AN INTENTIONAL FURTHER ONSLAUGHT AGAINST AFRIKAANS EDUCATION

“The Basic Education Laws Amendment Act” Bill is being pushed through parliament by the ANC and its cohorts. It is an intentional further onslaught against Afrikaans education” says Advocate Jurg Prinsloo SC, leader of the Afrikaner Self-determination Party in a media statement.

In terms of the bill, the current legal authority of school management boards to control the language of instruction and admission of scholars to state schools will be taken away and handed to government functionaries.

Executive Councils will in terms of the bill also acquire the authority to merge state schools and to close state schools and to dissolve their school management boards on so-called “reasonable grounds”.

Advocate Prinsloo says the bill is clearly an effort to ensure that the migration of so-called “black” scholars who prefer English as language of instruction to Afrikaans medium state schools, can be enforced and expedited. That process would in turn create an excuse to thereafter convert those schools into English medium schools.

He says that it is clear that the ANC has no intention to relinquish its aggressive onslaught against Afrikaans education.
